NEIL ARMSTRONG
Neil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta Ohio. Neil Armstrong has an aeronautical degree from Purdue University. Also Neil Armstrong was in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. Neil Alden Armstrong was the first man to step on the moon. His first spaceflight was on the Gemini 8 in 1966, HE was the Command pilot on this mission. Armstrong’s second two last spaceflight was as the mission Commander of the Apollo11 moon landing mission on July 20, 1969 . Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface (“ The Eagle has landed “) and has spent 2.5 hours exploring while Michael Collins Orbited above.
Before Neil Armstrong became an astronaut He saw action in the Korean war .Neil Armstrong served as a test pilot at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Neil Armstrong flew over 900 flights in a variety of aircraft. Armstrong served as a project pilot on the f-100 super saber A and C aircraft , f-101 voodoo , and the Lockheed f-104 A starfighter . He also flew the X-1b , Bell x-5 , North America x-15, F-105 Thundercheif , F-106 Delta dart, B-47 stratajet , KC- 135 stratotanker and paresv. He graduated from Purdue University. Armstrong served as a back up commander for Apollo 8, slayton offered him the past of commander of Apollo 11 on December 23, 1968, as 8 orbited the moon.
During the Apollo 11 launch Neil Armstrong s heart reached 109 beats per minute . Armstrong found the first stage to be the loudest – much noiser than the Gemini 8 titan 11 launch –and the Apollo CSM was relatively roomy.
The Objective of Apollo 11 was to land safely rather than touch down with precision. Three minutes into the lunar descent burn he noted that craters were passing about two seconds too early, Which meant the Eagle would likely land beyond the landing zone. Armstrong took over manual control of the LM.
Armstrong and Aldrin were ready to go outside , Eagle was depressurized , the hatch was opened and Neil Armstrong climbed down the ladder . Armstrong placed his left foot on the surface of the moon at 2:56utc July 21, 1969 then spoke the following words : “ That’s one small step for man one giant leap for mankind”.
About 15 minutes after Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the surface of the moon Aldrin Joined Armstrong on the moon and was declared the second man on the moon. Aldrin later gave the flag a planting and later recived a call from president Nixon . President Nixon asked why there were no Photographs of Neil Armstrong . Armstrong went for a walk which is now known as East Crater , 65 yards (60m ) East of the LM. Neil Armstrong s final task was to leave a small package of memorial items.
After re-entering the LM, the hatch was closed and sealed. When Armstrong and Aldrin discovered that in their bulky spacesuits they had broken the ignition switch. Neil Armstrong shortly after the Apollo 11 flight that he would never fly in space again.
Neil Armstrong has recived many honors and awards the Presidential Medal of Freedom , the Congressional Space Medal of Honor and many others . In 2004 Purdue University named their engineering building after him.
